I've had to wait over a week to put the final touches on this bird. This evening I highlighted the wing edges which helped to separate the bird more from the background water.
I'll put fixative on this tomorrow after one final look in the morning. After that the varnish process will start. VARNISH? Yup, I'll explain later. It's another benefit of this gesso technique.
I make black and white drawings using charcoal, graphite and carbon. Burnt wood & natural elements... an utterly simple yet vastly complex medium that is perhaps one of the oldest we know.
My finish work is done on a heavily gessoed board. The random brush texture creates an exciting and unexpected spontaneity which provides me a way to incorporate an aspect of painting into my work.

Great drawing, and an interesting technique, the bird really stand out now its always the little touches that make all the differance.
Thanks Grahame,
Over the past week the thing looked flat to me. That little touch did make all the difference. I appreciate your feedback.
