It has been some time since I was last able to sit down and actually draw. I have to admit that I lost confidence in my approach to this new technique I've been using. I think it is not ingrained in my mind like my other drawing styles are. You hear of writers block and I guess this is like that. I got over it well enough to add a few more calves and a cow before embarking on the bull.I am trying very hard not to overwork this thing. I'm still using mostly vine charcoal and smudging with my fingers. Another aspect of this new approach is that because it goes so quickly that I find that I look for larger blocks of time that I can work. It is not something that I can pick away at a few hours here or there. I need to dive right in because each elk takes only a few minutes and once I get started I need to keep moving or else I lose my focus.
This probably sounds blah, blah, blah, but this is such new territory that I'm really fumbling in the dark. Maybe I can draw again tomorrow and get the bull done. I'd be pleased about that and can move onto the habitat. Thanks for checking in.

I agree with all that Peter says, it's good to see you back at the drawing board and progressing with this piece, seeing the way you work makes me want to give charcoal a go myself. look forward to seeing this finished.

Was out early this morning hearing of a Sow and 2 cubs just north of town. Didn't find them but watched a lone cow elk for awhile. Such magnificent animals.
Saw a huge Buck Mule Deer in the velvet too. He is gonna have a huge rack this fall and would be fun to find and paint him.
